The most beloved diary product cheese which is very delicious and renowned as it had forever played a major role in majority of the tastiest cuisines. Despite of the fact of high amount of calories it is next to impossible to survive without. The extra flavor in it is the main reason of it being added to every alternate dish.

The most beloved dishes of all time such as pasta and pizza is impossible to prepare without cheese. But are you aware of the fact that the cheese used every now and then is not of the same type though it is similar in shape and size. So in this blog we will be discussing all the cheese types found in India and in what manner it is consumed.

The Ultimate Types of Cheese

1. Mozzarella

The most famous and renowned cheese is Mozzarella which can be found in any corner of the world. The roots of cheese origin come all the way from Italy and is having quite a clement taste and is very chewy and soft. It is made from the old school tradition of producing it from Italian milk from buffalo.

Nevertheless, quite recently mozzarella is also been produced from both sheep and cows milk also. There are 2 varieties of it which is dried and fresh.The dried mozzarella is mainly used for cooking use which is added in lasagna, baked dishes and pizza. Whereas the fresh mozzarella cheese is used in sandwiches &salads. Said to be the best cheese in India.

2. Parmesan

The original name of Parmesan cheese is Parmigianino Reggiano and as it was difficult to remember a cheese by that name ‘Parmesan’ was used instead. This cheese is also originates from Italy too. Like every cheese it has a concrete color with powerful taste. The cheese comes with a POD which is (Protected designation of origin). This can only mean one thing that it can only belong to the place of origin which is Northern Italy. Majorly used as a dressing which adds tremendous taste to the foods. Among the different types of cheese Parmesan stands as one of the most preferred cheese type.

3. Ricotta

This cheese too belong to Italy which is produced from sheep, goat, and cow and in some cases from the water buffalo milk whey left in process of cheese. Ricotta could be used for direct consumption or consumed with all dressing such as cinnamon, sugar. It is majorly preferred in preparing food items like calzone, ravioli and lasagna and many more food items falling into salad category.

4. Feta

It is a renowned Greek cheese produced from either goat or sheep milk. The name comes from its place of origin where it first time was made. The name finds it roots in the Greek term which means slice in English. This cheese has a tangy and salty taste yet it is very creamy and soft in texture. On the other and it can also be eaten raw or grilled for salad or marinated using olive oil and other herbs also.

5. Blue Veined Cheese

Blue Veined Cheese also known as blue cheese which can either be related as a cheese that is made with sheep, goat or cow’s milk. The finished product is determined by grey, black, blue or green spots or veins of shape in the entire cheese.

6. Cheddar

There is hardly anyone who could deny of not knowing this famous variety of cheese which is originated from a village named Cheddar based in Somerset, England. There are various kinds of cheddar cheese which is available in many different forms too. The different forms of cheddar is directly dependent on the aging of the cheese. The light cheese is characterized by a creamy flavor, smooth texture and soft texture. The traditional cheddar is crumbly and hard which also has a quite salty taste.

7. Gouda

The Gouda is a cheese which is a Dutch variety of cheese comes from the Southern Netherlands. The flavor, texture, taste of cheese has different variations. The less aged Gouda cheese is lenient in taste along a semi-hard smooth texture. On the other hand the aged Gouda cheese is crumbly hard which comes with a deep and intense flavor.

8. Cottage Cheese

A cheese made with the acidification process of curds. Cottage cheese is made with a milk by resorting to a bacterial starter tradition. It is formally known as ‘Paneer’ in our country. As it is available in a lot of varieties, every variety differs from each and other in terms of nutrition due to the different production style used. This cheese has low fat content in it and has a light but tangy taste in it. The Cottage cheese is preferred majorly by the ones who wish to have more of protein in the food they are adding it to consume in dishes they prefer having.

9. Chevre or Goat Cheese

This cheese is of French origin which is produced of entirely goat’s milk. The calorie content in it is lower but the vitamin content is quite high in it. Despite the fact that this cheese is used as an ideal alternative for majority of the people who follow strict diet. Available in tons of shapes and sizes. Chevre Or Goat Cheese can also be found in sizes such as long shaped, drum shaped, patties, round loaves, pyramids and so on. Chevre Or Goat Cheese is a type of cheese which is majorly used in production of cheese cakes or used as snacks with drinks.

10. Halloumi

The Halloumi cheese is white in color and its features are more like a spring which is prepared from a blend of sheep and goat milk. The color of the cheese is like mozzarella or the thick variety of feta. It has a salty flavorwhich is quite strong. If the Halloumi cheese is cooked it may help to get rid of the tangy flavor and becomes even creamier. It can either be fried or grilled as it melts at a high heat. It is majorly used in salads.

11. Traditional Kashmiri Cheese or Kalari

Kalari can be described as a classical or traditionally aged chees related to Poonch, Rajouri or Udhampur or Jammu state of J and K in our country. A very thick cheese which is normally fried and salted when served.

12. Scamorza

Another cheese known as Scamorza originating from Italy which is produced from the cow’s milk which grazes on pastures from a blend of both sheep and cows milk. Outlined like a pear which is not easily available to see in other varieties. Scamorza is majorly preferred when being used as to add a strong taste in baked items.

13. Bocconcini

The word Bocconcini means ‘little bites; in the Italian language which are sized of not more than an egg mozzarella which is basically made out from milk extracted from buffaloes. On the other hand this is a semi-soft textured cheese and white colored with a lenient taste. These days Bocconcini is prepared from a blend of both cows and buffalo milk. As the cheese is majorly consumed when it is fresh. Tastes best when sliced over vegetable dishes or pizzas.
